Autophagy is an intracellular mechanism for survival and waste management system under high stress, malnutrition, or ageing. Lack of autophagic process in various human cells can often lead to metabolic disorders. Inducing autophagy has become a new approach and solution for the treatment of the disorders.

We have introduced autophagy inducing Aquatide and AdipoSol as anti-ageing and anti-photoageing active ingredients. Today I introduce MelaTrepein for hyperpigmentation treatment. MelaTrepein facilitates melanosome degradation by autophagy induction and blocks transfer of melanosome to neighboring keratinocytes. MelaTrepein does not affect melanocytes and therefore, is a novel and safe active ingredient for hyperpigmentation.
