In this presentation, we will investigate the antioxidative and antiphotodamaging activities of Houttuynia cordata extract (HCE) and its potential for skincare application.
The test results of antioxidative efficacy show HCE can remove free radical and inhibit production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at concentration of 0.31~1.25%.
The results of western blot analysis also indicate that HCE can diminish the photodamage caused by UV based on the expression change of different proteins (e.g., Aquaporin 3, Cyclooxygenase-2, Matrix Metallopeptidase 9, Collagen IV), and the effective concentration range is 0.31~0.62%.
The transdermal study is also conducted using Franz cell and chromatography technique.
